Week One Results

Week One has come to an end and the results are in…I know that some people may wonder how this is possible, but these are the facts.

Waist - Lost 1 1/4 inch, Chest - lost 1 inch, Arms - lost 1/4 inch on each arm, Thighs - lost 1/2 inch on each thigh. For A Total inch loss of 3 3/4 inches

Not bad for the first week. I hope you noticed that I measure my progress in inches lost because weight doesn’t matter. It is how big or bulky your body is that really matters. Who cares what you weight is as long as you easily fit into your favorite pair of clothes that make you look great. Will I be able to keep up this type of inch loss? Probably not. Usually the first couple of weeks is the largest reduction. That is why you want to take advantage of this and use the loss as a motivation for the next week.

Review of Fat Dad Thin Dad Weekly Objective

Last week I had a birthday weekend celebration for my wife in Dallas. We had fun and didn’t over do anything. I ate according to my health management program (see my post from Saturday) and did my 2-a-days for exercise. In fact I liked the fact that I got to use 3 different pieces of exercise equipment. I noticed my pants on Sunday were a little looser than normal and was really surprised to find I had lost as many inches as I had.

This next week, my objective is to do more of the same except I am not going on any trip. The focus will be to eat fresh fruits and vegetables along with my meatatarian life style. Yesterday I had a meatatarian salad which was two pieces of ham, two strips of bacon, two link sausages, and two eggs over easy. I cut them all up into small pieces and mixed them together.

Why are you eating these types of foods?

Here’s a little secret. I have taken time to find out what makes my body work most effectively. That is why diets don’t work. By focusing in on these types of foods and exercising the way I do, I know what the end result will be - because I have done it before.

Why Are You Losing Inches So Quickly?

Because when you give your body what it wants and needs (this is different for every “body”), it will go back to its normal mode of operation. I have found my body likes fresh fruit & vegetables and lots of meat. It also needs a ton of cardio in addition to the normal workout. Whether I like it or not, that is how my body functions. I have run test after test and when I put this combination together for me, it works.

Every “Body” Is Different

People may ask about whether you need long cardio workouts or certain eating plans. The real answer is that every one is unique. That is why you should find out what works for you. Ask you health care professional which would be the best plan to test and monitor the results. Not working, let your health care professional know so they can recommend one that will. Remember that life is a test, but you only get one life. So enjoy it to the fullest and don’t fall for all the crap in this diet industry. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Fat Dad Thin Dad Launches Today

Have a lot happening today in performing all the various tasks I need to do. So I will just give you a quick over view of what I have started today and will post a video later this week with an update.

Who Is Fat Dad And Who Is Thin Dad?

What many of you may not know is that I entered the Body For Life contest back in 2004. I was a finalists and got a pin and certificate to prove it. I have stayed fairly on track except for last year when I had two different injuries which set me back a lot. I tore my right calf muscle and when that healed, I broke my right hand. Both were freak accidents.

With this in mind, the Fat Dad, Thin Dad series is about my trek back to being the best shape of my life. I will be sharing exactly how I did manage to go from one to the other in only 12 weeks, but this time I want to do it with a different goal in mind. I want to do it with the idea of asking one question - Can I see myself doing this for the rest of my life? More on this later.

What Steps Are You Taking To Get Fit?

Quite simply, like most people, I want to start off with a blast. But keep in mind that you have a body like a cruise ship. It takes time to turn it around. You may not see any success the first few weeks. Yeah, I said weeks. But that is why I work hard to turn the ship. Once I have it turned, then it is not as hard to steer.

The steps I am taking this first week is to get myself in the habit of doing the right things. I am eating as naturally as I can. Now by naturally I mean it is best to stay as close to none packing as possible. I eat a lot of fresh fruits. I eat a lot of vegetables. But the best thing I eat is meat. Yeah, you heard me right, meat. I am truly a meatetarian. I can’t get enough.

So this week, my foods will consist of fresh & cook vegetables and fresh fruits along with protein in the form of meat, eggs, and nuts. I personally don’t measure food. I just eat enough to take off the hunger pains.

What About Exercise?

I exercise twice a day. Yes, it is the best way I know to boost my metabolism and burn fat. Why do I do this? Because that is what my body needs to do. Doing this first portion of the Fat Dad, Thin Dad approach, I am going to do a lot of cardio. Not forever, but just to get things going.

I have a ten minute body weight exercise routine followed by 25 minutes on my Nordic Track (the original ski machine) in the morning. When I get home from work, the first thing I do is another 25 minutes again. That’s it. No magic pills. No potions or secret formula. Just the only proven method for managing your health.

What Measurements Do You Take?

Do not measure your weight as that is the least important thing to measure. It will fluctuate all over the board and it can vary as much as 5 pounds depending upon what you drink the day before. Instead, measure inches of your waist, both biceps, both thighs, and your chest. If you want to have something else to measure, you could measure your hips. The only thing you really care about is how big you are when it comes to wearing clothes. Your weight doesn’t determine whether you can wear a certain size. How far around your various body parts does.

Summary

Wow, I wrote a lot more than I thought, but here is the summation. Fresh fruits and vegetables along with proteins. The kick in the two-a-days. That is what this week will consist of for me. Please note: this is not your program. You should always check with your health care professional before attempting any changes in your eating or exercise.

We will post the progress on Sunday evenings to see how well things are working and how we may need to tweak as we go. There is no good program for everyone. Each body is different as is our health management program.

Grapefruit Diet

Have you tried the grapefruit diet? You know the one where you have to eat “x” number of grapefruits a day with hardly anything else. It is supposed to increase your metabolism and burn off fat. While the fresh fruit is probably good for you, the biggest challenge is that if you drastically change your eating pattern from what you eat now to mostly grapefruit, you may be in for a big shock.

Diet After Effects

One friend of mine who tested this diet, ended up with an allergic reaction to grapefruits. Due to the acidity levels that changed in his body from eating so many grapefruits, his lips swelled up. So he ended up gaining from doing this diet. Here he wanted to reduce and all the grapefruit did was puff him up. Just another reason to check with your health care professional before attempting any new diet.

Quick Overview of Grapefruit Diet

We discovered yet another video for your enjoyment which talks about this interesting diet. It doesn’t cover all of the specifics, but it sure is fun to watch.

What Does Fad Diet TV Think?

First, grapefruits are good for you as is any fresh fruit. Just make sure you don’t have any allergies. We are strong believers in eating fresh fruits and vegetables as going natural is usually a common sense approach to eating. However, your body needs more than just one type of fruit. Also no fruit will burn off all of your sins from eating incorrectly.

We rate this diet as good only from the fresh fruit vantage point. However, it too is bogus because you have to ask yourself, “Can you live on this for the rest of your life?” If not, then tag it as bogus.
